I am a full time associate of The Consultation Institute and work freelance on digital projects, training and digital consultancy.  At the moment I am working on long term contracts with the World Bank and ScienceWise.

I have experience in writing ICT strategy for large corporations and have worked on many IT build projects for the public sector and European Commission. I’ve worked in the private sector too – Which? Ltd and Balfour Beatty mainly.

I’m always up to-speed on the latest technologies and technology policy.

I’m also founder of a little company called OpinionWise which runs some excellent web services such as OurHousing and AloneFone.  Oh yeah – the digital engagement database is a long term hobby of mine.

Digital engagement and technology strategist, digital business owner and internationally recognised innovator.  Niche experience in digital government projects, project management, digital business support and consumer insights/empowerment.

I spent my early career evaluating digital products and services for the Consumers’ Association which have me deep insight into consumer perspectives and instilled the ability to analyse the world through a consumer lens.

I later moved onto leading a £4m national innovation project for developing digital propositions in the area of advancing public services, managing a team of four.  For example, I helped conceptualise and deliver the UK’s first online petition facility in 2005, winning the European eDemocracy award in the same year.

Since 2010 I have been a Senior technology associate for the Consultation Institute. My time at TCI has been varied and includes lecturing and leading on their public sector quality assurance programme for local authorities. I am also their assessor of web technologies for public engagement.

I have a natural ability to identify and exploit market opportunities through digital foresight and have successfully started two digital businesses – a web service for social landlords and a mobile phone app to help tackle loneliness.  As a small business owner I understand the balance between risk and reward as well as the financial accountability of a limited company.

I have also been engaged in technology change roles, such as ICT relationship management for Balfour Beatty where I helped develop their digital strategy and subsequently migrate legacy systems to more effective cloud based solutions.

More recently I have been supporting the development of digital capabilities of SMEs in Lincolnshire through mentoring and training initiatives on topics such as online merchandising and effective social media.  This includes establishing five digital ‘hubs’ in the region focused on digital fabrication in conjunction with the University of Lincoln.
